In the East Disctrict of Hsinchu City, one can stitch together a quite nice run combining paths around Hsinchu Park, two universities, trails at Eighteen Peaks, and numerous running tracks. We’ve mapped a route to use as a guideline to create your own route. The East District is home to the the Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park.

Start at Hsinchu Park, with a ~1.5 km loop around the park’s paths. There are nice blossoms in season, shrines, and a running track at the east end. Then, use Bo’ai St. for 1 km to access Eighteen Peaks Mountain.  Pro Tip: lovely cherry blossoms at Hsinchu Park, in season.

Eighteen Peaks. This is a running highlight of Hsinchu City, There are 4-5 km of paths — a combination of paved walkways & stairs on forested hillsides, with flowers & views from observation decks. Create your own route here — there are kiosks with maps. The direct access to the summit is nearly 100m over 0.6 km.

From the east end of the area, access National Tsing Hua University (NHTU). There are nice pedestrian paths around the campus, an 0.6 km loop around Cheng Kung Lake, and a running track. Use Bo’ai St. for the return.

Add-Ons: For a longer run or variation, add National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). It’s ~0.5 km south of NHTU, using Tsin Chiao Path. There are some pleasant pedestrian paths including a small lake loop, and a running track at NYCU Stadium.
