Hsinchu City, Taiwan

Hsinchu City is a coastal city located in northwestern Taiwan on the Taiwan Strait. With a population of nearly 500,000 Hsinschu is known as a cultural center, university city, and location of Hsinchu Science Park, an industrial centre for semiconductor manufacturing. The best options for running in Hsinchu City are focused on the 30 km of paths along the Taiwan Strait, paths along the Touqian River, and some decent running in the East District (location of Science Park).

The best place to run in Hsinchu is to choose a section of the 30 km paved Nanliao Bikeway. We’ve divided this into two routes: the ’17 KM Coastline Scenic Area‘ and an additional 11 km south of Nangangshangniao Park. Not as scenic but still decent for running is the 11 km Touqian River Trail. In the East District, home to Science Park and NHTU & NHCU, there are hilly, wooded trails around Eighteen Peaks, which can be combined with Hsinchu Park and university campus paths. For a destination run, head to Emei Lake.

Runner Notes: Weather is a big factor here: Intense heat & humidoty from May through September, monsoonal rains, and wind during monsoon season.
