Ikoyi – Lekki Bridge

Wikimedia Commons: Chippla

Ikoyi, located on the eastern side of Lagos Island is one of the more upscale sections of Lagos. One of the more popular places to run in Lagos is the Ikoyi Bridge, which links to the island of Lekki. The 1.4 km bridge has a good pedestrian/bicycle path, and is one of the few opportunities in Lagos to get in a bit of elevation. There’s a famous photo of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg running across this bridge.

To start in Ikoyi, there are a couple of options. You can use Gerrard Rd./Alexander Rd. toward the bridge, or Bourdillon Rd. They’re busy 4-lane roads, but there are sidewalks. Then cross the bridge and return. We’ve mapped a 10.7 km out and back, starting in central Ikoyi on Gerrard Rd. near Fantasy Island. To extend the run on Lekki, continue on Admiralty Way.

Essentials
  • Bridge is 1.4 km long. Our route from central Ikoyi is up to 10.7 km (6.7 miles) out and back
  • 39m (124 feet)
  • Central Ikoyi - Gerrard Rd.
