Indianapolis Residential: Meridian Hills to Carmel

Wikimedia Commons

Meridian Hills. Gorgeous neighborhood, with many homes built between WW1 and WW2. North Meridian St. is the anchor street, featuring some spectacular homes. The area is about 5 miles north of downtown. Start at the 94-acre Holiday Park and work your way north on North Meridian St., exploring the lovely side streets, as far north as Nora and Carmel.

Carmel. Located 15 miles north of downtown Indianapolis, this is also a lovely residential neighborhood for running. There are tree-lined streets with sidewalks and some attractive homes. Even better, a section of the Monon Trail runs through the middle of Carmel. The area sits south-north between I-465 and E 146th St., and east of Highway 421. A good place to start is off Main St. in the Arts & Design district, at the intersection of the Monon Trail. Or, combine with Nora and Meridian Hills, just to the south.
