The Riverfront Heritage Trail is the best option for running in downtown Kansas City. The begins at the confluence of the Missouri River & Kansas River riverfront and winds through the oldest and most historic parts of bi-state Kansas City. Some parts are along the river, while others are through parts of the city and historic sections.  The trail links communities, parks, and exciting destinations with unique new venues and public artwork.

Note that the trail is a bit of a work in progress. It’s also a bit disjointed. Overall, there are 15 miles of trail — best to choose a section!  We think the nicest sections for running are along the Missouri River east to CPKC Stadium, and the part through the historic part of downtown Kansas City. This interactive map has good detail on the sections and sites.
