Kaohsiung City, Taiwan

Kaoshiung Harbor Run

Kaoshiung has a large working port, and also an extensive harborfront around Xizi Bay that is a popular visitor destination. There has been a continued effort to make it more pedestrian-friendly, with walking paths along several sections and views of the harbor/bay/South China Sea nearly throughout. We’ve designed an 8 km one-way route along the harbor, which provides a good guide to run any section you’d like. It’s quite easy to follow.

The westernmost point is off Lianhai Road, near the British Consulate. Follow the paths/roads east around the harbor. At 1 km, pass by the British Consulate and the Sizihwan Scenic Area. The next ~2 km around a canal type inlet, following Shaochuan St. and Binhai 2nd Rd. (pedestrian bridge cuts off ~1 km if desired) past the Gushan Ferry Pier Station. Next is Jiexing 1st St., which takes you to the ferry terminal and Sinbin Pier, then Banana Pier and the Kaohsiung Harbor Museum. Lots of shops & restaurants here. Follow the path/road around the pier, with Dayi Park on your left, crossing the Lingyaliao Iron Pedestrian Bridge to Glory Pier, past the Holy Rosary Cathedral Minor Basilica (the country’s oldest Catholic church). A path parallels Haibian Rd. to Singuang Riverside Park and the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center.  There are light rail sections along the eastern sections of our route.
