Porto Venere — Waterfront & Fortress

Flickr: Vuemme

This is a short but very scenic run in Porto Venere, a village on the Ligurian coast that’s the gateway to Porto Venere Regional Natural Park. Start at the parking lot just east of the Spiaggia dell’Olivo (beach) and run west along the Passeggiata Aldo Moro, a scenic waterfront path, for 1 km. You can add by running down the numerous piers off the path. At the end of the Passeggiata, continue on the waterfront V. Calata Doria for another 0.7 km to the Chiesa di San Pietro. This is a rocky point with fantastic views. Retrace your steps, taking the V. Vittoria, along an area of stairs & hilly paths with views of the water & grottos, past the San Lorenzo Church. Rejoin the waterfront path for the retrun.

Add-On Adventure: Take a ferry over to the Parco Naturale Regionale di Porto Venere. There’s a combination of some easier roads/trails and some more rugged hiking trails.

Essentials
  • 3.7 km (2.3 miles)
  • Flat, but the climb to the Castello is hilly
  • Parcheggio Mirella, just east of Spiaggia dell'Olivo (beach)
