Ljubljanica River Paths

Andrew Nash

The miles of concrete paths lining the banks of the Ljubljanica River offer a multitude of opportunities for running around Ljubljana. The paths don’t blend seamlessly along the river, so when it comes to safety and convenience, there are two great options. One is to stick to the center of town and run on the pavers close to Old Town (this is also a great addition to the Castle Hill or Runseeing Tour). This easy 4.3 km loop around the crescent of the river starts at Triple Bridge and includes several historical sites, bridges, and the Krakovski nasip, a fun strip of cafes and vendors.

The other option is to head out to the section east of town, where we’ve designed a more pastoral 7 km loop from Kajuhova ulica, east to highway 57. These lightly used footpaths pass through quiet farmland, and are nice respite from the sometimes busy Old Town.

Essentials
  • Old Town Loop: 4.3 km (2.6 miles); Eastern Loop: 7.4 km (4.3 miles)
  • 60 feet (18 meters) or 45 feet (14 meters)
  • Old Town Loop: Triple Bridge; Eastern Loop: Kajuhova ulica
  • Kajuhova ulica reachable by bus
