Cabo San Lucas is the southernmost city on the Baja California peninsula of Mexico. It’s a popular tourist destination, known for its high-end resorts, white sand beaches, and stone archways standing sentinel over the sea. The tourist corridor stretches 30 km north into San Jose del Cabo, another vacation hotspot. This is our guide to the best places to run in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. See also our running guide for other locations in Baja California Sur.
The sand on Cabo San Lucas beaches is notoriously soft, but beach running is a convenient (and very scenic) option from any of the tourist areas. The Harborfront and Paseo de La Marina in Cabo San Lucas is also a short but pleasant run. Trail runners can find more routes in El Tule and around Medano. We’ve also mapped additional running options in San Jose del Cabo, including a marina loop, two beaches, and paths along an estuary.
Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are both compact, walkable cities on their own. Traditional taxis and water taxis are available for longer trips, but a rental car may be desirable for those who want to travel between the hubs of Los Cabos. Note: It can be very hot in summer, with temperatures regularly topping 90F (32C).
