The Great Runs guide to running in the 'Tricity' including Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia

CC 2.0: Andrzej Otrębski

Gdańsk is a major port city located on the Baltic Coast in northern Poland. The area is also referred to as the Tricity, including Sopot and Gdynia. The city’s historic centre and location near the coast make it one of the most visited cities in Poland. There’s also wonderful running in Gdańsk, including numerous parks, riverside paths, and an extensive coastal promenade between Gdańsk and Gdynia.

A great place to start is our ‘runseeing’ tour of Gdańsk, which includes the main sites and paths along the Motwala River. Other good running options in Gdańsk include the numerous parks around the Gdańsk University of Technology, and our Fortress (Bastion) route along the Opływ Motławy Canal. Some of the best places to run in Gdańsk are the 11+ km of seafront promenade, in Gdańsk, which includes three notable waterfront parks. For some hills and forested trails, head to Tri-City Park. It’s worth the quick drive or train ride to enjoy some waterfront running in Gdynia, as well as its hilly forest parks.

Gdańsk’s seaside location moderates both winter and summer temperatures. Winters are cold but not frigid, with temperatures that hover around freezing. Summers are mild, with occasional warm spells. Much of the precipitation falls in summer. There can be snow. There’s also a fair bit of overcast. Note the shorter winter days and longer summer days!
