Lincoln is Nebraska’s second largest city and is the state capital. It’s a interesting mix of prairie city, university town, and growing high-tech sector. For a city of 300,000 people, there’s an excellent infrastructure for running in Lincoln, with some 134 miles of multi-use trails, numerous parks, and some attractive older neighborhoods. A great way to get oriented in Lincoln is our ‘runseeing’ tour incorporating the University of Nebraska campus, Capitol, and some historic downtown neighborhoods. Some of the best places to run in Lincoln are on the extensive multi-use trails, notably the Rock Island Trail & Salt Creek Levee Trail. For parks, we love running in Pioneers Park and trail running in Wilderness Park. Favorite neighborhoods for running are the Near South neighborhood near the university/downtown, and the University Place, East Campus, and Woods Park neighborhoods in east Lincoln.
Lincoln has a four-season climate with hot summers and cold winters. There’s a decent bus transit system, StarTran.
