Stockton & Modesto, CA

The best places to run in Stockton & Modesto. See Also Our Guides for Sacramento & Fresno

This is the Great Runs guide to running in Stockton and Modesto — two adjacent cities in California’s Central Valley with a combined population of 500,000+.  Stockton is located on the San Joaquin River. The area is known for its vibrant agricultural industry.

The best place to run in Stockton is the Calaveras River Bike Path. There’s also a nice run combining the ‘Greenbelt‘ trail with a path along the San Joaquin River. The Bear Creek Trail is a good way to rack up some flat off-road miles. The best place to run in Modesto is the linear park trail that stretches across four different parks. We also like running on the Standiford Trail and the path through Tuolumne River Regional Park.

Runners should note that summers are particularly hot and dry in this area, and that many of our routes are open and exposed.
