Hempstead Lake State Park is a great spot for running, with scenic trails around the namesake lake and three ponds. The park is located at the eastern edge of Long Island in West Hempstead just off the Southern State Parkway. There are numerous other recreation facilities, including playing fields and 20 tennis courts. It’s accessible by train (Lakeview stop).

There are several miles of trails that are great for running. The signature route is the 3-mile Bridle Path around the lake, with some lake views and some wooded sections. There’s also a 2.4-mile paved bike path. The 1-mile Blue Trail runs near the northern ponds.
