Milwaukee, WI

Hank Aaron State Trail

One of the most popular places to run in Milwaukee. Named after former Milwaukee Braves and Milwaukee Brewers right fielder, the Hank Aaron State Trail traverses Milwaukee County from Lake Michigan through the Historic Third Ward and the Menomonee Valley to the Milwaukee/Waukesha County Line. This trail is mostly asphalt with some portions made of crushed limestone.

This course starts at Discovery World and heads south, traveling through Lakeshore State Park, then turns West, detouring onto E. Erie St, crossing the Milwaukee River on N Broadway, which brings you onto Pittsburgh Ave leading back to the next trail connector. You’ll loop around the Menomonee River, past the Harley-Davidson Museum, continuing to follow the river for a loop around Marquette University’s Valley Fields. Instead of taking the loop all the way around and back, you can alternately continue the trail west towards Three Bridges Park.

There’s a 5k run the second Saturday in August.

End points: Lakeshore State Park at E. Michigan St. (Milwaukee) and W. Blue Mound Rd./US 18 (Elm Grove)
