Burgas and Nessebar, Bulgaria

Includes the Area from Burgas to Nessebar, Including Pomorie. See Also Our Guide for Varna.

This is the Great Runs guide to running in the area of the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast between Burgas and Nessebar. It’s a complement to our running guide for Varna. Special thanks to Vladimir Ivanov for his route suggestions in this area.

In Burgas, Bulgaria’s fourth-largest city, there’s 10+ km of seaside running, which we’ve divided into two routes: from the Lighthouse to the Saltpans, and then further north to Sarafovo, where one can add with a loop along Sarafovo’s beach & piers. Also in Burgas, add paths in the Sea Garden as part of your waterfront run. We’ve also included a ‘Runseeing‘ tour of the historic center and a trail run around Cape Foros. Further north in the seaside town of Pomorie, there’s nice running along a sandbar and on a promenade along Central Beach.

In Nessebar, there’s 7.5 km of spectacular seaside running, including a  3k waterfront promenade encircling the perimeter of Old Nessebar. There are also some runnable beaches in Nessebar, and a 2.8 km promenade along Sunny Beach.

Runner Notes: Summers can be hot and humid in this area.
