The Bronx River Greenway is a good opportunity in the Bronx for a longer off-road run. The full multi-use path (mostly paved) runs for 22 miles between runs along the Bronx River from the mouth of the East River north to the Kensico Dam. However, because there are many sections still under development including on-road sections, we’ve focused on the three miles in the heart of the Bronx between Starlight Park and Soundview Park. There are additional parks as well as running tracks that make for nice add-ons.

The north end of our mapped route starts in Starlight Park, just north of 174th St. Follow the path south along the water. There are good water views most of the way. Just past the 1-mile mark, there’s a bit of a janky crossing across I-278 using a pedestrian bridge. Continue along the east bank into Soundview Park, which features additional trails and a running track.

Add-On: Crotona Park. Located 1/2 mile west of the Greenway, Crotona Park makes for a nice add-on. Use 173rd or 174th St. to access the park. There are numerous paths and a small lake in this tree-filled park. A loop around the perimeter is ~2 miles.
