Fort Adams State Park to Castle Hill

Creative Commons 2.0: ironypoisoning

Fort Adams State Park is a good spot for an off-road run in Newport, and can be combined with some of our other area routes. The Park is on the site of a 19th-century fort, and is a popular spot for sailing and swimming in season. One can do a quite scenic run here, on the park’s paths and along some 1.5 miles of waterfront path, with great views to Newport Harbor & beyond. A loop of the park is ~2.5 miles.

For a longer run, continue south Castle Hill, a small peninsula with a lighthouse, historic inn, and a small beach. It’s ~1 mile to Castle Hill from Fort Adams SP, using Ridge Rd. (note: no sidewalk, soft shoulder). To make it a 10k loop, you can return using Castle Hill Ave. & Harrison Ave., which are pretty roads (note: no shoulder).

Add-Ons & Variations: Combine Fort Adams with other sections of our Newport Grand Tour — either the Newport Waterfront or Ocean Ave.
