The preserved red clay lanes known as Heritage Roads are a unique feature of PEI. Some of these roads run by open farmland, and others feature beautiful ‘tunnels of trees’. The terrain can be hilly. They are a treat for running, as they are generally free of traffic and offer a unique glimpse of PEI’s history and landscape. Courtesy of Tourism PEI, we’ve included information on the Heritage Roads on our PEI overview map. See this page for detailed information on each road. Our favorites for running: Princetown, Mellish, Hackeney, and The Glen. Notes: There can be farm equipment. Use caution. Also the roads can be muddy from mid-March to early June due to snow/frost melt.
