King’s Meadow & Christchurch Meadows

King's Meadow. CC: Steve Daniels

Enjoy running on the paths and fields of King’s Meadow & Christchurch Meadows — two large green spaces on either side of the Thames in central Reading. There are woodlands, towpaths, fields, and other recreational facilities.

Christchurch Meadow. CC: Rose and Trev Clough

A good place to start is in central Reading at Fosbury Gardens. Do a 1/2 mile loop around the pleasant garden paths, and then cross the Reading Bridge to Christchurch Meadows. It’s 0.5 miles to the northern end at Westfield Park. Double back, then turn RIGHT, heading west for 1/2 mile along the Reading River Promenade to Piper’s Island. Retrace your steps, crossing back over the bridge to King’s Meadows, doing a loop there.

Add-Ons:  Additional paths along the River Thames extend from Reading Bridge east or west.

Essentials
  • 4.2 miles (6.8 km) loop. Add on with paths along the River Thames
  • 55 feet (17m)
  • Central Reading: Fosbury Gardens
  • Steps from Reading train station; Also a car park at Hills Meadows
