Reading is a town in Berkshire, located at the confluence of the Thames and Kennet rivers. It’s an important commercial and retail center, given its location in the Thames Valley only 40 miles west of London. There’s a nice variety of running options in Reading, including extensive river paths, pleasant parks, estate grounds, and quiet roads in the open, rolling countryside.
The centerpiece of running in Reading is the series of paths along the River Thames west to Tilehurst or east to Shiplake. Add to this with the parks & gardens of King’s Meadow & Christchurch Meadows. We also love the paths along the River Kennet, which can be added to with the paths around Fobney Island and the area’s lakes. One of the best places to run in Reading is on the grounds of Basildon Park, plus some lovely countryside running in Maidenhead & Cookham Commons, and a route south of Reading in Rotherwick. For some wooded trail running, head to Swinley Forest.
