For a nice run with an optional hill climb, head to the series of parks just west of downtown. We’ve put together a 7.5 mile route incorporating Mt. Rubidoux Park, Fairmount Park, and Ryan Bonaminio Park, using a section of the Santa Ana River Trail to connect them.

Start at the Mt. Rubidoux trailhead off 9th St. The first section is the 1.2 miles to the top of Mt. Rubidoux, climbing 320 feet with grades of 3-5%. Nice views from the Peace Tower at the summit. Head down the other side of the trail, connecting to Fairmount Park. This is a lovely little park, with rode gardens and a lake. Then, use the path to run for 0.5 miles west to the Santa Ana River Trail. Head back south on this the multi-use path along the river, which skirts the western edges of Mt. Rubidoux Park & Fairmount Park, to Ryan Bonaminio Park, which has some nice fields.

Options/Variations. Route can be shortened by eliminating section to Ryan Bonaminio Park. Can also not do the Mt. Rubidoux climb. For more, there are many additional miles possible on the Santa Ana River Trail.
