The University of California at San Diego (UCSD) is located on a lovely campus just west of I-5 between La Jolla Shores and Torrey Pines. It’s pleasant for a standalone run or as a complement to other La Jolla area running, although the major roads around there tend to be busy.

This is a bucolic campus, with numerous pedestrian paths and a pretty canopy. It’s also a great shade option on a hot day. We suggest you create your own route, using the attached campus map. The campus is bound by the famed La Jolla Playhouse at the southern end and Genesee Ave. at the northern end — a distance of ~1.5 miles. It’s ~0.5 miles east-west, but for some nice additional running, the university’s Mesa Housing Complex just east of I-5 has some pleasant paths (use the Gilman St. Bridge).

Essentials
  • Can do a few miles just on campus -- it's 1.5 miles north-south, and 0.5 miles east-west.
  • Some hills - especially if you head toward the water
  • Anywhere on campus. La Jolla Playhouse is a good anchor
