South Creek Greenway Trail & Nathanael Greene Park

Greenway section in Nathanael Greene Park. Google Street View

The South Creek Greenway is an 8-mile multi-use trail located in the southern part of Springfield. We love combining sections of this greenway with Nathanael Greene Park, which the trail runs through. The paved path is mainly a neighborhood type trail, with a combination of open terrain and some wooded sections, as it runs along South Creek.

The east end is at McDaniel Park. Head west on the trail, paralleling W Sunset Rd. for ~3 miles, entering Nathanael Greene Park. The greenway runs for 1 mile through the park, which has ~2 miles of lovely trails & botanical gardens. At the 5.7 mile mark, a switchback takes leads to W Battlefield Rd., and an 0.8-mile on-road section. The greenway picks up again just south of HWY 60, for a more rural, farm-y type section of 1.5 miles.

Nathanael Greene Park. Run as part of the S Creek Greenway, or standalone. This nicely landscaped park has lovely botanical gardens and ~2 miles of trails. It’s ~1.5 miles around the perimeter, including 1 mile of the paved S Creek Greenway trail.
