St. Louis, MO

Washington University Campus & Clayton Neighborhood

Source: Washington University of St. Louis

One of our favorite St. Louis runs is around the campus of the Washington University of St. Louis and tony Clayton neighborhood. This route is right next to Forest Park. The 169-acre  ‘Wash U’ campus, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, is very pleasant for running. The main campus is bordered by Forsyth Blvd. and Forest Park Parkway. Enjoy the classic campus buildings, Brookings Quad, & more. It’s about 1 mile through the campus, and then to the western part of the campus using Maryland Ave., a pretty residential street. Then take a jaunt through Shaw Park, a lovely historic park with gardens and paths. The second half of the run features the winding, bucolic streets of the classically designed Clayton residential neighborhood, using David Dr., Edgewood, & more., passing through South 40 Park.

Add-Ons/Variation: We’ve designed a 7 mile route incorporating the area, but it might be preferred to create your own route. For more lovely residential running, take an additional jaunt around Concordia Seminary and Fontbonne University (Aberdeen Pl., Arundel Pl.). Also, nearby Forest Park.
