York is graced by beautiful, centrally located parks and moors that make for some terrific running. We’ve put together a nearly 7-mile route showcasing Millennium Fields, Rowntree Park, the Knavesmire Grasslands, and Hob Moor. Use our map a guide to create your own run on these numerous park paths.
Rowntree Park. CC: Tim Green
Start at the graceful Rowntree Park, which has some lovely landscaped paths and ponds. Head south for ~1 mile through the park, and cross the Millennium Bridge into Millennium Fields. Do a loop there, then back over the bridge, to access the Knavesmire Grasslands. It’s a ~1.5 mile loop around this large field/racecourse track. At The Tyburn, head west on the path into the classic Hob Moor, where a loop of the paths is ~1 mile. Return to Knavesmire, heading north on a path past the Scarcroft Apartments, then RIGHT on Scarcroft Rd. for the final 1/2 mile.
Add-Ons: Additional paths in the parks. Can also join the River Ouse route.

There are scenic paths and parks along both sides of the River Ouse, which runs right through central York. We've mapped a 5-mile loop, but there are options for more. Nice views of the water, historic York, and options for additional paths in the parks.
Run a loop around York's 13th-century city walls on the 3-mile City Wall path. A fun, historical route. Add on with some paths and sights inside the old city walls, including Museum Gardens and York Minster.
This is a scenic run in east York, combining a run around the modern campus of the University of York, the marshy moorland of Walmgate Stay, and paths in Hull Road Park and the nearby St Nicks Nature Reserve. Use our map as a guideline.
Many miles of running possible on a path along the River Ouse north of York. Can combine with the grounds of Beningbrough Hall -- a National Trust Property. Start near York or at Beningbrough Hall.
