Maksimir Park

Only a 10 min tram ride from the city centre of Zagreb and home to the City Zoo, Maksimir Park is a good choice for anyone who enjoys running in peace and in nature. Officially opened in 1794, it is known to be the first public park in Southeast Europe.  It’s heaven for runners seeking versatility to run on a zig-zagging combination of gravel, pavement, and trails, while being surrounded by tall green trees, small lakes, ponds, and meadows.

We’ve created a 5 km (3 mile) loop of the park’s highlights. One can also create their own route, with marked loops of 0.5 to 6 km.

Running can be done throughout the year but the most stunning time can be during autumn when the leaves change colours into lovely shades of red, yellow, and orange.

Essentials
  • 5 km (3 mile) loop
  • 176 feet
  • Park Entrance off Maksimirska Cesta
  • Tram: Bukovačka
