This 7 km tour of Málaga has a bit of everything: a pleasant, green park, a tour of the port on waterfront paths, a section of the seaside promenade along Playa la Malagueta, and a few of Málaga’s key sites. Plus an option for a run/hike up to the castle and catch a glimpse of some of the city’s historic sections.
Start at the Fuente de las Tres Gracias (fountain) next to the Plaza de toros, and head west through the lovely Parque de Málaga for ~1 km, and then cross the main road onto the Muelle Uno, for a tour of the port. Run past the lighthouse (Faro) at the 2 km mark and continue down the palm-lined pier to the end of the cruise terminal (2 km out and back). Continue back along the Promenada Farola, and then along for ~1.5 km on the promenade along the Playa la Malagueta (urban beach). Turn LEFT on Calle Keromnes at the 6.5 km mark, and then LEFT on the Paseo Reding, a busy road that has a nice ‘tree tunnel’ sidewalk, to return to the start.
Add-On: To add a bit of challenge and explore some of Málaga’s key sites, at the Museo del Patrimonio, take the path to the Castillo (1 km, steep climb) and then the Mirador de Gibralfaro (observation deck), which has great views of the city and the sea. Then, you can come back and cross over to explore some of the Málaga old city (Alcazaba Palace, Picasso Museum, Plaza Merced, and Catedral de la Encarnación). It’s a maze of streets and best to go early to beat the crowds. Difficult to map, but use Calle Alcazabilla and Calle Molina Lario as good anchors to see the sites.
