Lahore was established in 1000 CE and a mud wall around it was built during the medieval era. It’s a memorable experience to take a run around the Walled City, the highlight of which is Greater Iqbal Park, which features several of Lahore’s most important sites over a run of ~5 km. Outside the park, the Walled City, which is bound by Circular Road, is a maze of crowded, narrow streets.

We recommend starting at the Azadi Chowk East metro station, at the western edge of Greater Iqbal Park. Head east on the paths for the spectacular approach to the Minar-e-Pakistan, and then further east toward the Natural History Museum at the edge of the park. Then head south along the park-like grounds (Dancing Fountains at Night) toward the Alamgiri Gate, which provides access to the Lahore Fort, Palace of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), the Hazuri Bagh historic gardens, and the Badshahi Mosque.
Additional Walled City Exploration: The Circular Garden runs along the outside of the Walled City on three sides and is runnable. Use the Circular Garden or Kotwali Wala Bazar Rd. (0.75 km). to run to the iconic Masjid Wazir Khan mosque, located at the southeastern part of the Walled City near the Delhi Gate. You can also pick a quiet time and walk/run to explore the maze-like alleys of the Walled City.
