This is a pleasant run in Lakeside Marblehead, a peninsula jutting out to Lake Erie. It’s an easy 20-minute drive from Sandusky. There’s a cute downtown, a highlight of which is the lakeside Hoover Auditorium. For running, we suggest starting downtown, running through Bettinger Park out to the Lakeside Beach pier, and then east along Lakefront Dr. to Foundation Park. From there, continue east, using Prairie St. to connect to Rte. 163/E Bayshore Rd. There’s a particularly nice waterfront section, with a sidewalk, for 1 mile to Lake Point Park. Make sure to take the 0.1 jaunt out to the lighthouse! Here, turn around and retrace your steps for a 7-mile out and back option.
E Bayshore Dr. Google Street View
Loop/Longer Option: Instead of turning back at Lake Point Park, continue on E Bayshore Rd. (caution: no sidewalk) for 1 mile, and turn RIGHT on Alexander Pike (Rt. 142), and run for 1.8 miles along this a quiet road alongside the Lakeside Daisy State Nature Preserve.

A unique and scenic run - take in gorgeous views of Lake Erie while hearing the screams coming from death-defying roller coasters. Lovely running on Cedar Point, with nice lake views, attractive homes, two runnable bridges, and an 'Amusement Park Loop'.
Located in Marblehead, this peninsula of land stretching into the waters of Lake Erie is one of our favorite places to run in the area. 10 miles of trails through dunes, boardwalks, meadows, and along a beach. The ~2 mile main park road is also scenic and runnable.
Reachable via a 20-minute ferry ride, the island has some attractive running options. For road running, we love the loop incorporating W Lakeshore Dr. for its views of Lake Erie. At Kelleys Island State Park, the signature run is the 5-mile Quarry Trail.
An old quarry near Sandusky is now a 152-acre park, offering panoramic views of Sandusky Bay and the Lake Erie Islands from an observation deck. ~5 miles of trails, with good footing. We recommend combining Quarry Rim Trail and the Levee Loop.
The 472-acre Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve has 2 miles of trails with views to wetlands. Combine the trails and main road with the park-like Sawmill Creek Dr. for a 4-5 mile run.
A short but scenic waterfront run in Port Clinton, which sits at the mouth of the Portage River on Lake Erie. 4 miles out and back, from Waterworks Park/Port Clinton Lighthouse, west to Jacknife Marina. Nice lake views. Road has decent shoulder.
The best bet for a long off-road run in the Lake Erie Shores area. The 20+ mile multi-use path is located ~15 miles north of the lakeshore We've mapped two sections from Bellevue: east to Norwalk and west to Fremont. Combination fields and woods.
