East Harbor State Park is one of our favorites place to run in the Lake Erie Shores area. Located in Marblehead, East Harbor State Park is situated on a peninsula of land stretching into the waters of Lake Erie. A 2-mile-long strip of beaches and dunes separates the harbor from the open waters of the lake.
For running, there are 10 miles of trails winding their way through dunes, boardwalks, meadows, and a beach. Using this trail map, a couple of good combinations are Trails A-C near the park entrance, and Trails G-H-I-J, in the dunes/beach area. The beach is runnable but the sand is not very firm.
You can also run on the main park road, which is scenic has a dedicated lane for bikes/pedestrians. From the park entrance, it’s ~2 miles along E Harbor State Park Rd. to North Swimming Beach.

A unique and scenic run - take in gorgeous views of Lake Erie while hearing the screams coming from death-defying roller coasters. Lovely running on Cedar Point, with nice lake views, attractive homes, two runnable bridges, and an 'Amusement Park Loop'.
Scenic running in Lakeside Marblehead, a peninsula jutting out to Lake Erie located 20 min. from Sandusky. Enjoy the quaint downtown and lakeside road with an option for a loop of ~8 miles passing by the Lakeside Daisy State Nature Preserve.
Reachable via a 20-minute ferry ride, the island has some attractive running options. For road running, we love the loop incorporating W Lakeshore Dr. for its views of Lake Erie. At Kelleys Island State Park, the signature run is the 5-mile Quarry Trail.
An old quarry near Sandusky is now a 152-acre park, offering panoramic views of Sandusky Bay and the Lake Erie Islands from an observation deck. ~5 miles of trails, with good footing. We recommend combining Quarry Rim Trail and the Levee Loop.
The 472-acre Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve has 2 miles of trails with views to wetlands. Combine the trails and main road with the park-like Sawmill Creek Dr. for a 4-5 mile run.
A short but scenic waterfront run in Port Clinton, which sits at the mouth of the Portage River on Lake Erie. 4 miles out and back, from Waterworks Park/Port Clinton Lighthouse, west to Jacknife Marina. Nice lake views. Road has decent shoulder.
The best bet for a long off-road run in the Lake Erie Shores area. The 20+ mile multi-use path is located ~15 miles north of the lakeshore We've mapped two sections from Bellevue: east to Norwalk and west to Fremont. Combination fields and woods.
