Fuerteventura is known for its white sand beaches, rugged interior natural parks, and even some desert-like terrain. The beaches on the west side tend to be sandier. On the east side, the best beaches for running are in Jandía National Park. The interior of the island is rugged, mountainous, and dry. Here are some of our recommendations for the best places to run on Fuerteventura.

Coata Calma and Jandía National Park. On the east coast of Fuerteventura, there’s some excellent beach running in Costa Calma and the 25 km of gorgeous beaches that are part of Jandía National Park. Notes: at high tide, the beaches are more like sandbanks with lagoons. Also, the beaches are famous for their winds.
In Costa Calma, the gateway to Jandía NP, the beach is ~1.5 km long, and there’s also an 0.6 km path above the beach from the Diving Centre. The best, longest beach for running is Playa de Sotavento. Wide, with miles of firm sand near the water.
Coast-to-Coast Desert Run. 10 km (6.2 miles) out & back, 121m gain. Run between the east and west coasts on the Agua Liques Trail through the narrow El Jable sand desert! From Costa Calma on the south side of Fuerteventura, start at the palm-park that lines Avenida Jahn Reisen. After ~2 km, a sandy jeep trail (big sign, blue markers) leads across the isthmus for 3 km. It’s exposed, and the surface can be soft. There are additional trails in the desert area, which are well-signed. Inspired by Keith Hauser of joggingroutes.org. DETAILED DESCRIPTIONROUTE MAP
Playa de Cofete. This is a gorgeous run on a wide, remote gold sand beach with towering cliffs and crashing surf. Good, firm sand for running near the water. Some 10 km of runnable beach, accessed by a lone beach road from Cofete.
Corralejo Waterfront & Beaches3.6 km out and back. In Corralejo at the northern end of Fuerteventura, there’s a pleasant promenade for running that extends for nearly 2 km around the marina, and then north along the Paseo Marítimo Bristol to the Bristol Sunset Beach Hotel. ROUTE MAPAdd-On Options: Dirt roads/trails extending west from the Bristol Sunset Beach Hotel. Corralejo Beach, just south of the marina is also nice for running for 0.5 km. The sand is firm, but the beach is narrow so best to go early or off-peak. There are also wide, sandy beaches starting at Playa del Pozo and extending for several km south. Sand tends to be soft and firm only right near the water.

Several routes showcasing the volcano on the rugged island of La Palma, including the biggest volcanic crater in the world. Great variety of terrain & scenery, including some wonderful views into the crater.
A compilation of some of the nicest waterfront running opportunities on Gran Canaria. Seafront promenades and bike paths ring the island. Some of the beaches are runnable as well. For a challenge, run the Maspalomas Dunes!
On the northern side of Gran Canaria, there are numerous opportunities for scenic running, including trails on the Isleta Peninsula, and then beaches & seafront promenade around the town of Las Palmas and down the east coast.
In the southern resort town of Maspalomas, a nice 10k run on a pedestrian path alongside a dry riverbed, leading to a promenade along Meloneras Beach. Inspired by Keith Hauser of joggingroutes.org
While Lanzarote might be fanous for trail running on its rugged, volcanic terrain, there's also some gentler, scenic running on lengthy coastal promenade paths. Two notable routes are on the eastern and southern side of the island.
