In Ebelsberg, located 10 km southeast of Linz, there’s some pleasant running in the countryside on numerous trails and paths along rivers and around lakes. There are several options here that can be mixed & matched in various ways. We’ve centered the routes from the Ebelsberg Ort light rail station or the Linz/Donau Ebelsberg train station.
Traun River Path & Lake Loops. Paved and gravel paths follow the Traun River for nearly 9 km from Ebelsberg to the Ausee Swimming Lake/Asten Locks area. Most of the path is right along the river, with some nice views of the water and surrounding countryside. Mix and match with some nice lake loops that come right off the path:
Weikerlseen Lake Loop: Just past the 4 km mark of the Traun River Path, there’s a path around the lake that goes around the lake for 2.4 km — combination of woods and lake views.
Ausee Lake Loop. At the eastern end of the Traun River Path, there’s a 2.2 km path around the lovely Ausee Swimming Lake. Can add by running over the Asten Locks (see below).

Once over the locks, there’s 2-3 km of additional paths along the Danube (see map). In all, this can be a nice 10k run!
Jauckerbach River Path. From the Ebelsberg light rail station, there’s a path along the Jauckerbach River. From the station, follow the path along west Wiener Str. for nearly 2 km, and then enjoy 1.5 km along the Jauckerbach River.
Pichlinger Lake. Google Street View
Pichlinger Lake Loop. A bit further south and adjacent to the Linz/Donau Pichling train station, there’s a nice 3.4 km loop around Pichlinger Lake, with nice water views. There are bathrooms and other facilities. It’s a popular lake in for swimming in summer.
