Oshkosh occupies a scenic setting on the western end of Lake Winnebago. This route has a couple of options: ~4 miles along the Fox River combining the Riverwalk and Wiouwash trails; and/or continuing the Wiouwash Trail north, through lovely farmland.
Fox River Waterfront. The Riverwalk starts just east of Main St, at Riverside Park. Head west for 1.2 miles, where there’s a connection point to the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh campus at the Wellness Center. The path becomes the Wiouwash Trail, with an 0.5 mile road section just west of campus. The trail then continues right along the river for another 1.2 miles to the I-41. This is the 4-mile mark. It’s possible to continue on the I-41 bridge on the Heritage Trail, although it’s very busy with a lot of traffic.
Add-Ons: paths around the University campus.

Wiouwash Trail. This is a pleasant long-distance path passing through farmland, with some wooded sections. Starting at the Univ. of Wisconsin Campus, the first 2.8 miles overlaps with our waterfront route along the Fox River to I-41. From there, the Wiouwash Trail heads north for nearly 22 miles to Hortonville. Surface is mainly crushed stone.
