Fond du Lac is located at the southern end of Lake Winnebago. The best places to run in Fond du Lac include some paths along the lake and some longer multi-use trails.
Lakeside Park & Peebles Trail. The most scenic running in Fond du Lac is anchored by Lakeside Park. Enjoy around 1.5 miles of path/road, including jaunts out to the Fraser Point Lookout at the west end, the Lighthouse at the east end, and Fountain Island. Then, at the park entrance off Main St., take the Harbor View Trail east for 1 mile. Then, after a brief section on Winneabago Dr., continue east on the Peebles Trail for 3 miles east to Highway 151. You could make this a ~10 miler combining Lakeside Park with the Habor View/Peebles out and back.
Longer Option. The Prairie Trail is a cycle path paralleling Highway 151 for up to 6 miles. Not scenic, but a decent off-road option.
Riverwalk & South Brooke Paths. In central Fond du Lac, there’s a multi-use path that parallels Brooke St. from Scott St. to Dixie St. for 2.1 miles. A good spur is the 1 mile Fond du Lac Riverwalk, which starts just south of Johnson St. Combining these would be a 5-6 mile route.
To combine this with the Lakeside Park route above, it’s 0.5 miles from the Harbor View trailhead to N Brooke St., using Main St. & West Scott St.
Mascoutin Valley Trail. CC: Joshua Mayer
Mascoutin Valley State Trail. A rails to trails trail that runs for nearly 10 miles west to Rosendale. A nice combination farms, prairies and wetlands. Mainly crushed limestone surface. Starts at parking area off Rolling Meadows Dr. just west of I-41 and north of Highway 17. ROUTE MAP
Wild Goose State Trail. Another good longer distance running option! The trail runs along the former Oakfield Railroad for up to 34 miles south to Clyman. Smooth and level with a crushed stone surface. Terrain is a combination of farmland and some wooded sections. At the 15-mile park, the trail skirts the western edge of Horicon Marsh, a National Wildlife Refuge and home to over 250 migrant bird species, where there are additional trails. ROUTE MAP
