For a longer off-road run, the County Trail & McClory Bike Path are good options. These mainly paved rail trails run inland. There are two sections, not contiguous, totaling 23+ miles.

Country Trail Between Kenosha and Racine. This is a paved multi-use path that runs for 7.5 miles between Kenosha and Racine. It’s fairly open terrain, with some nice tree-shaded sections. The southern end starts at 35th St. near Gateway Technical College. Run north on this flat asphalt trail. Sam Poerio Park is at the 2-mile mark, and the Kenosha Country Club golf course is at 3.5 miles. The north end is at 16th St., where there’ a spur heading west for 1 mile toward Highway 31.

Country Trail South of Kenosha. This is the longer section, running for 15.6 miles from Kenosha south to North Chicago. It’s similar in nature to the section above — asphalt surface, with some good shade sections. Start at 89th St. in south Kenosha near the Anderson athletic complex (running track), and run south for as many miles as you like!  At 3.4 miles, the trail crosses the Illinois state line and turns into the McClory Bike Path, continuing into North Chicago, ending at Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. just west of Sheridan Rd.
