This is a lovely 8 km run in La Spezia that has it all: a waterfront promenade, historic park, short cycle path, and a jaunt through the historic center. La Spezia is a port city known for its maritime history and 14th century Castello San Giorgio.
Passeggiata. Google Street View
Start at the lovely waterfront park off V. Italia and run for 0.8 km along the waterfront path, the palm-lined Passeggiata Costantino Morin, which features nice views of the port and the park. We’ve included an 0.8 km out and back jaunt out the pier to the lighthouse. Continue west to the end of the Passeggiata. RIGHT on V. Amendola, LEFT on V. Nicolò Fieschi, skirting the university, where there’s a running track at the sports complex. You’ll then join the Rebocco – Fabiano Basso — a paved cycle path, heading north for 1 km.
The next section is a tour of the Centro Storico, using V. Roma, and then V. de Prione for 1 km, passing through several piazzas. The final 0.8 km is on paths through the lovely Giardini Pubblici park.
Add-On: Off V. Prione, there are stairs or a short road that climb to the hilltop Castello San Giorgio. There are additional winding hillside roads behind the castle, with decent sidewalks, if you’d like get the heart rate up.
