This large natural park spread over 18,000 hectares is considered one of Portugal’s seven natural wonders. It’s a tranquil estuary of fresh and saltwater lagoons, islands and marshes. Among the nature trails that are good for running:

Ludo Trail. Popular bird watching trail.  Accessed from the parking lot of Faro Beach.

São Lourenço Trail. 3.4 km out and back. Pleasant trail around dunes, salt marshes, lagoons. At Quinta do Lago Beach. More info (p.23)

Nature Discovery Trail. 3 km loop. Lovely gravel and boardwalk trail at Marim Environmental Education Centre, the park’s headquarters. More info (p.27).

Ilha da Culatra Trail. 5.6 km out and and back. Wooden boardwalk around a salt marsh. The island is reachable via ferry from Olhão. More info (p.25)
