Vilamoura – Waterfront, Beach, and Marina Tour

Flickr: Ronald Saunders

The resort town of Vilamoura is known for its large marina, golf courses, sandy beaches, and gorgeous red cliffs that extend west of town. We’ve put together two suggested running routes in Vilamoura, which can be combined. This one includes a waterfront promenade, boardwalk along Vilamoura Beach, and a tour of the attractive marina. Use the map as a guideline. It’s 7.7 km one-way, including 3 km out to two jetties, and can be started at the eastern or western ends.

The first section is a lovely 1.5 km run along the Av. Infante de Sagres in Calvacos, a pleasant seafront promenade just east of Vilamoura. The next section is a little loop around the Porto de Pesca, Quarteira small marina, which includes jaunts out to two jetties (Farolim de Quarteira east and west, 1 km and 2 km out and back, respectively). Continue west for 1 along Vilamoura Beach, which has a wooden boardwalk that can be used for running/walking (option/alternatives: Paseo Das Dundas and Jardim Alameda da Marina). The final section is a 2-3 km loop around the Vilamoura Marina, which has nice walkways alongside. We go as far as the parking areas for the marina, off Estrada da Rocha Baixinha.

Add-Ons: Connect to our clifftop paths heading west, starting at Praia da Falésia
