Tempelhofer Feld (Tempelhof Field)

Creative Commons 2.0: Torben

Tempelhofer Feld (Tempelhof Field) is one of the newer running opportunities in Berlin. It’s on the site of the former Tempelhof airport, which was closed in 2008 and turned into a large park. The 386-hectare open space features a 6 km multi-use trail, fields, and large BBQ & picnic areas. Tempelhofer also contains one of the world’s largest buildings in a central location for public use.

For running, we recommend the 6 km paved jogging loop. It’s open, exposed, and flat. Add on with the fields and do fartleks on the old runways. You can add on with the adjacent Hasenheide Park (Volkspark Hasenheide), which has large lawns and 5-6 km of paths.

Add-Ons: Adjacent Hasenheide Park (Volkspark Hasenheide) has extensive paths & large lawns; Also, the New Tempelhof neighborhood, just west of Tempelhof Field, is a nice neighborhood for running.
