Parks, Palace, & Hills 10k

Creative Commons: Carsondelake

This is a nice 10k route in the western side of Bonn that has lot of different features: some small parks, a botanical garden, tree-lined allée to a palace, Kreuzberg Hill and multi-use paths along a stream.

Start on the Rhine river path in Stadtgarten, which features nice lawns and statues, and head west through Hofgarten, with its old grand palace. Continue west for 1 km on Poppelsdorfer Allee, a grand tree-lined street leading to the Poppelsdorfer Palace, which is located in a gorgeous Botanical Garden, founded in 1818. From there, continue along a path through a cemetery and along an old pilgrimage route up Kreuzberg Hill on the Stationsweg path (a 250-foot climb!). Turn around just past the 5k mark at the church, and then run downhill on the Melbweg Trail along a stream in the Melbtal area (running track at the sports complex!). The dirt trail is a bit rugged in sections. Nice views of the city! At Poppelsdorfer Platz, retrace your steps for the final 2 km.

Shorter Option: Eliminate the Kreuzberg section.

Add-Ons: Some additional paths in the parks, and Rhine River paths.
