In 1995, this swamp was preserved from development and is now a wetland and nature park, making for a scenic run of ~ 4 km. The Wetland is located 10 km northeast of downtown Christchurch, near New Brighton. The route is on a combination of gravel path and some boardwalks, featuring some lovely landscaping and nice views of the swamp. The wetland is popular with nature watchers and birders.

Starting from the car park off Beach Rd., follow the main walkway (called the Wetland Walkway/Anne Flanagan Walkway), around the perimeter — a distance of 4.2 km. For an extra 0.5 km, take the Clarevale Loop Walkway, in Clarevale Preserve, at the southern end of the park.

Add-On/Connection to Avon River: At the southern edge of the Wetland, an 0.8 km connector path along the Anzac Drive Preserve, paralleling Highway 74, leads to the Avon River Path, where you can run for toward Christchurch or New Brighton.
