Fowey: Waterfront, Castle, Bike Path

Tony Atkin

Fowey is a port town at the mouth of the River Fowey in south Cornwall. The best place to run in Fowey is on the waterfront road/path on the west side of the river, with good views of the river. Start on Station Rd. near the Caffa Mill Car Park, and run south, following the coast road and Esplanade for 1 mile past the town center to the end. Here, you can take the S W Coast path for 0.2 miles to St Catherine’s Castle.  It’s a worthwhile climb!

St. Catharine’s Castle. CC: Nilfanion

There’s also a paved, wooded path that comes off Readymoney Rd. just before the end, that heads inland for 1 mile to Polvillion Rd. (B3415). For the return, retrace your steps, or you can follow Polvillion Rd./New Hill Rd. east to town.

Add-Ons: Some easier sections of S W Coast Path near St Catherine’s Castle, and some more moderate/challenging sections toward Gribbin Head  that make for some good trail running.  Information
