The Wolf Creek Trail is another opportunity for a longer off-road run. The paved ‘rail-trail’ runs for nearly 16 miles northwest of Dayton. There are two sections, and we don’t recommend running the on-road connection between them. The first section, closest to Dayton, follows McGee Blvd. and is less scenic.
Section 1: Downtown to Little Richmond Rd. This first section is 3.7 miles. Starting across from downtown at Sunrise Park, the trail follows Wolf Creek for 1 mile, and then runs alongside James H McGeen Blvd — a busy four lane road.
Section 2: Trotwood to Verona. This 12.5 mile section is more scenic, mainly passing through open farmland. Headed northwest, you’ll pass through 2,384-acre Sycamore State Park (miles 2-4), which has additional trails (more rugged) and gorgeous sycamore trees. At Mile 7 is the cute town of Brookville and the pleasant Golden Gate Park. The northern 5 miles pass through open farm fields.
