There are some nice running options in Granby, a town of 70,000 near the west end of the Eastern Townships. Choose from some waterfront running along Lac Boivin, a cycle path to Yamaska National Park, or a section of the longer-distance Estriade cycle path. Note: Parts used for X-C skiing in winter.

Lac Boivin Loop & Area Trails

The signature running in Granby is around Lac Boivin (lake). The Yamaska River flows through this lake, whuch is lined with parks and green spaces. One can do a loop of 8 km or 12.5 km, using a combination of area parks, cycle paths, and trails that are part of the Nature Centre (Centre d’Interprétation de la Nature du Lac Boivin).

Short Option: Start at Parc Estriade and run on the paved Estriade cycle path along the south side of the lake, enjoying nice water views. Just past the 3k mark, follow the scenic path that crosses the Réservoir Lemieux over to the north side of the lake. You can then take Rue de l’Estrie (some nice homes) into Daniel Johnson Park, or the Granbayenne Cycle Path, which parallels Rue Drummond.

Long Option: This option adds 4.5 km, with a longer loop using the Randonnée Trail in the nature center, then rejoining the above route along the north side of Lac Boivin at Rue de l’Estrie.

Nature Center Trails (Centre d’Interprétation de la Nature du Lac Boivin)

This nature center is lovely, with some 10 km of trails traversing a combination of terrain: lakeside, wetlands, and some woods. This MAP shows the trail and route options. The longest loop is the 6.3 km Randonnée, which overlaps with sections of our lake loops above. The trails have generally good footing.  Note: Fees required for parking.

Yamaska River Cycle Path

There’s a lovely cycle path that runs alongside the narrow Yamaska River between Granby and Yamaska National Park. Officially called the Piste Cyclabe du Parc régional de la Haute Yamaska, the paved multi-use trai follows the river east for ~7.5 km to Yamaska NP. The landscape is a combination of open & wooded, with occasional lake views.

Other Area Multi-Use Trails

The longer Estriade cycle trail passes through Granby. You can run southeast for toward Waterloo (22 km), southwest to Farnham (24km), or west toward Marieville on a cycle path that parallels Route 112.
