Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala Campus

Creative Commons

Running around the campus of the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (San Carlos University) is one of the more pleasant places to run in Guatemala City. The university is located in the southern part of the city in Zone 12, and has a park-like campus with nice pedestrian paths. Stay inside the ring road, Blvd. Universitario. Among the running highlights are Plaza de los Mártires, the Jardines Agronomía park, and a running track around the Revolución Stadium. Just to the west of Blvd. Universitario is Las Ardillas Park.

For a longer run, we do see runners along the median of Av. Petapa, just east of the university. It’s a busy road, but there’s a green strip along the median, with a railroad track and a dirt path that runners and pedestrians use. Won’t win any awards, but runnable!

Essentials
  • ~1 km north-south or east-west. Perimeter lap of park is ~3.2 km. Plus a running track!
