Weston: Shore Promenade, Abbey, Victoria Park

Creative Commons: Rhys Jones

This is a lovely 10k run in Weston, on the east side of the River Itchen from Southampton, that includes a ‘butterfly walk’, shorefront promenade, and a nice park. A good place to start is at the Victoria Road Car Park. The first section is 1-milejaunt on the Butterfly Walk path, then making your way back to the Weston Shore Promenade – a combination dedicated path and sidewalk along the Solent. Continue for 1 mile to the picturesque Netley Abbey. There are great water views, and the circa 1239 Abbey is worth a visit.

From here, a couple of options: Continue for another mile, hugging the water, to Royal Victoria Country Park, where there are some paths around this park built on a former hospital site. At the Abbey end of the trail, there are some lovely trails for running in the Westwood Nature Reserve.

Essentials
  • 6 miles (9.8 km) out and back to the Abbey & Victoria Park
  • 131 feet (40m)
  • Victoria Road Car Park
  • Car Park
