In Kailua, the Kawainui Marsh Bike Trail is a scenic trail for running. This flat, gravel trail skirts the eastern edge of the Kawainui Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, an 800-acre wetland featuring an array of waterbirds and marsh plants. The trail runs above the marsh on sport of a levee, featuring lovely views of the wetland area. It’s 2.8 miles out & back.
For a longer run, you can also run on Kapaa Quarry Rd., which cuts through the marsh. It’s a scenic road with nice views. Note: no shoulder, but traffic is not too heavy.
