Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail

This is an opportunity for a hugely scenic, hilly trail run on a wide, paved path. The trail runs nearly 2 miles one-way from just off the Kalanianaole Highway to the red-roofed Makapu‘u Lighthouse, which was built in 1909. There great views of the coast and islets. Note this is a 500 foot gain over about 2 miles, one-way. For a longer run, you can also take the Kaiwi Shoreline Trail (1.4 miles one-way), which intersects with the Lighthouse Trail and leads to rocky, gorgeous Alan Davis Beach and Pele’s Chair. It is a not paved and narrower, but very doable as a trail run. And it’s fairly flat!

For a longer route, come back to the main road and head in either direction along the scenic highway. It is 1.5 miles further north to Kaupo Bay.
