The high Alpine resort of St. Moritz is one of the world’s most scenic mountain playgrounds. The city, host of two Winter Olympic Games, is a popular training ground for cyclists and runners, owing to its altitude, scenery, and great weather. There’s a wonderful variety of opportunities for running in St. Moritz, from gorgeous lake paths to forest trails. It’s also heaven for trail runners, with something for everyone.

Some of the best places to run in St. Moritz are along its numerous lakes, including loops around Lake St. Moritz, Lake Champfèr, and a popular route of up to 17 km incorporating numerous lakes. Just east of St. Moritz Lake, there’s a wonderful series of forest trails. We also love the Samedan Airport Loop, paths along the Inn and Flaz rivers, and the Via Val Roseg out of Pontresina. There’s a massive network of hiking trails, which offer trail running for all abilities.

Runners should note St. Moritz’s altitude of 1800m — make sure to acclimate and hydrate! Also, in winter, some of the trails might be used for winter sports, though the lake paths tend to have options for runners too.
