A Taste of the Desert! Sonoran Preserve

Author Photo

This a wonderful opportunity to take a unique run through scenic desert terrain. The Sonoran Preserve is in north Scotttsdale, and has an extensive network of trails, ranging from easy to moderately hilly and technical. There are three trailheads — see the map and trail descriptions.

Our favorite for running is the 5.6,mile Apache Wash Loop, which starts from the Apache Wash Trailhead. This flat dirt trail features unrestricted desert views, a great diversity of cactus, and the opportunity to spot some desert wildlife. There are numerous other trails, which are hillier or feature more technical terrain.

Essentials
  • Multiple options for trail length & difficulty
  • Ranges from flat to quite hilly
  • Depends on trail chosen
  • Three different trailheads
